In April 2018, Australia’s Environment Ministers announced a historic target to make all packaging in Australia reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025 or earlier. The Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) is the organisation charged by government to make this ambitious target a reality. Reaching the landmark goal set by Environment Ministers will require a complete transformation of the way our society thinks about packaging – recognising it as a valuable resource and not just waste that is destined for landfill.
This month APCO are contacting Australian businesses that are liable under the National Environmental Protection (Used Packaging Materials) Measure 2011 (NEPM). The NEPM outlines your basic obligations as a business for reducing the harmful impacts of packaging on Australian communities.
As part of a co-regulatory agreement, the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) has been charged with the task of informing you of your packaging related obligations and the options available for compliance with the NEPM.
