adidas Nine Months 2008 Results

During the third quarter of 2008, Group revenues grew 11% on a currency neutral basis, driven by double digit sales growth in the adidas and TaylorMade adidas Golf segments.

While adidas revenues increased 15%, TaylorMade adidas Golf sales grew 12% on a currency neutral basis. Revenues in the Reebok segment declined 1%. Currency movements negatively impacted Group sales in euro terms.

Group revenues grew 5% in euro terms to € 3.083 billion in the third quarter of 2008 from € 2.941 billion in 2007. During the first nine months of the year, adidas Group sales grew at double digit rates in all regions except North America where revenues declined.

Nike expands eco friendly options to all divisions

BREAKING NEWS : CPSC : Phtalates Ban does not apply to Sporting Goods

There's good news to report on the Consumer Product Safety Commission's (CPSC) ban on phthalates in‘children's toys.' According to information posted on the CPSC website, sporting goods (except for toy versions of a sporting good) are exempted from the definition of a toy and not subject to the ban onphthalates in toys. It also exempts bicycles, playground equipment, and musical instruments.

CPSIA - Court rules Phthalate ban is retroactive

The United States District Court for the Southern District of New York has unequivocally reversed the Consumer Product Safety Commission's (CPSC) opinion regarding the non‐retroactive application of the phthalate ban.

The court ruled that the Phthalate provisions clearly apply to existing inventory and the Commission's opinion to the contrary must be set aside. Today's decision has a dramatic impact on affectedproducts in that the ban becomes effective next Tuesday, February 10, 2009 and all non‐compliantphthalate inventory will have to be removed from store shelves, cannot be re‐sold or exported and must be destroyed.

The NPD Group reports downturn in sales for Sports Apparel and Footwear

Economic challenges are taking a toll on sales of athletic footwear and apparel, according to leading market research company The NPD Group, Inc. In the European Big Five market* during the quarter ending September 2008, value sales declined 8% on apparel and 5% on footwear, the firm reported.
