NEW YORK, NY, January 8, 2010 - Foot Locker, Inc. (NYSE: FL), the New York-based specialty athletic retailer, today announced a change to its organizational structure, steps taken to improve its corporate efficiency and updates to its 2009 real estate plans.
During the third quarter of 2008, Group revenues grew 11% on a currency neutral basis, driven by double digit sales growth in the adidas and TaylorMade adidas Golf segments.
Nike, which has been offering its environmentally friendly Nike Considered Design products for several years now, says that for the first time, it will offer such products in all six of its divisions basketball, running, soccer, women's training, men's training and sportswear as well as in tennis and its all condition gear products.
There's good news to report on the Consumer Product Safety Commission's (CPSC) ban on phthalates in‘children's toys.' According to information posted on the CPSC website, sporting goods (except for toy versions of a sporting good) are exempted from the definition of a toy and not subject to the ban onphthalates in toys. It also exempts bicycles, playground equipment, and musical instruments.
Economic challenges are taking a toll on sales of athletic footwear and apparel, according to leading market research company The NPD Group, Inc. In the European Big Five market* during the quarter ending September 2008, value sales declined 8% on apparel and 5% on footwear, the firm reported.
