ASGA Conference – save the date

The ASGA Conference and Annual General Meeting date has been set for Thursday, 29 September, 2011.  This year’s conference will be held at the Kew Golf Course. The theme of this year’s conference will be ‘Best Practice’ and the conference will focus on topics such as; retail, people and participation, product and environment. Mizuno U.S.A. Reports Record Growth in 2010Mizuno U.S.A. reporting record revenue and profit in 2010. The company,  whose Japanese parent reported results last week, indicated that it enjoyed an uptick across the board in each of its core products divisions, including golf, running, baseball, softball and volleyball for footwear, equipment and apparel. In addition, the company said it has doubled the investment in brand marketing infrastructure from 2010 to 2011. (more…)

Survey Evaluation

ASGA is undertaking an evaluation of its Market Intelligence Survey’s and I urge all industry participants to provide feedback about ASGA’s survey offerings, whether they are subscribers to the surveys or not. 

It is important that we obtain a cross section of advice and a thorough evaluation of our service offerings, so that we can ensure the surveys we are providing in 2011/12 financial year meet the needs of the membership. Engage in Etail Seminar

On Wednesday 13 April, ASGA along with the Australian Retailers Association hosted the first of a series of seminars and workshops was held to discuss and educate the industry about online retail trends. Over 150 people attended the event, held at the Como in South Yarra, which was booked out to capacity. Low Value Importation Threshold and Productivity Commission Update

The productivity Commission has released its issues paper about the Productivity Commission inquiry into the structure of the retail industry.It has been revealed that up to $12billion is being spent per year by Australian consumers online, and up to 40% and in some categories a great deal more, of this online retail is offshore. This paper has identified  that, the Commonwealth Government is losing an estimated $1.3m per day or $480 per year in uncollected GST.
